Introduction

Built in 1667, Cyder Press Farm offers both an opportunity to immerse yourself in olde worlde England from centuries ago, while providing the 21st century  home comforts that ensure a comfortable stay. As you drive into Cyder Press Farm, you will be struck by the property’s attractive exterior, featuring Tudor-style paneling, a beautiful lawn + patio area, and, if you’re visiting in the spring/summer months, you’ll see the farmhouse in full bloom – shrouded in climbing foliage and rose bushes.

Cyder Press Farm is ideal for families and larger groups, particularly those looking for plenty of open space where they can explore and relax. The Farmhouse is a great place for those wanting to holiday together while also appreciating some privacy thanks to the separate Barn building and bedroom partition door + separate staircases in the main farmhouse. The Farmhouse sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms, 2 of which are en-suite, 1 family bathroom and 2 additional WCs. The Barn can accommodate 4 guests in 2 bedrooms, both with their own en-suite bathroom.

Children will love the winding gardens at Cyder Press Farm (perfect for a game of hide and seek!), with plenty of outdoor games to choose from such as a covered ping pong table, ever-popular swingball, croquet set, hula-hoops and much more! Weather permitting, guests can enjoy a BBQ and dinner al fresco with a complete patio outdoor dining suite and comfy rattan furniture, as well as multiple other seating areas dotted around the lawns.

Inside, Cyder Press Farm is everything you may expect of a 17th Century Farmhouse, fine craftsmanship, wooden beams, large fireplaces, flagstone floors and full of wonderful little nooks and crannies. However, you haven’t completely stepped back in time, and there is also everything you may expect from a 21st Century home. The main farmhouse kitchen is spacious and very well equipped featuring an AGA and double fronted American fridge, while a beautiful period dining room sets the scene for entertaining. There are 2 games/play rooms for both little and big kids, one offering toys and games of a more traditional nature, and the other providing a large, flat-screen HD television and Xbox One, perfect for a movie night or for the keen gamers amongst the group!

Located off a very quiet lane in the sleepy hamlet of The Leigh, Cyder Press Farm is secluded enough to feel like a rural retreat while only a 10-15 minute drive from both the centres of Cheltenham and Gloucester, making it a great base from which to explore all that the Cotswolds has to offer!

Local Amenities

Local amenities

The beautiful parish of The Leigh is a uniquely tranquil slice of the Cotswolds considering it is located only around 5 miles from the lovely towns of Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and Gloucester. Although small, there are three main areas of the parish, Leigh End, Evington (the most compact part of the village and the area mainly referred to just as The Leigh), and Coombe Hill. The Leigh is a very historic and traditional village, with only 127 houses and 357 residents, 70% of whom have lived there for over 10 years (according to a survey taken in 2016). If you wish to learn more about the history of the village, visit www.theleighp.org.uk

There are four good pubs within walking distance (around a mile) from Cyder Press Farm. Serving good quality food and drink:

The Swan at Coombe Hill (GL19 4BA) On the crossroads at Coombe Hill (A38)

01242 680227 www.swanatcoombehill.co.uk

The Gloucester Old Spot (GL51 9SY) On the A4109 between Coombe Hill and Cheltenham!

01242 680321 www.thegloucesteroldspot.co.uk

The New Dawn Inn (GL2 9LR) at Norton On the A38 towards Gloucester

01452 730001 www.newdawninn.co.uk

The Red Lion (GL2 9LW) at Wainlode

01452 730 935 www.redlionwainlode.co.uk

There are many supermarkets nearby, but the closest are on the outskirts of Cheltenham,

Sainsbury’s (GL51 9RR) is approximately 3 miles away. There is also a large Waitrose in Cheltenham and an M&S Food Hall in the town centre. Coombe Hill Farm Shop is open seasonally and at certain times during the winter 01242 680537 and the garage shop at Coombe Hill sells basic groceries plus beer and wine.

Situated equidistant from three different towns, you have an excellent choice of shops, activities and attractions while staying at Cyder Press Farm!

Cheltenham: A large spa town which has four distinct areas of shopping from the Lower High Street. (Poundland, Wilco, Greggs etc), the High Street (M&S, Boots, WH Smiths etc) the Promenade (House of Fraser, Waterstones, Molton Brown, Jaeger, Hobbs etc) leading up to Montpellier with chic bars, exclusive and boutiques. The Brewery is off the lower High Street and hosts a number of eateries, The Screening Rooms and a multi-screen cinema.

Gloucester: A small city with the shops mainly situated on four streets forming the shape of a cross, so it is very easy to navigate. There is easy access to Gloucester Cathedral (where the cloisters were transformed into the corridors of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School). Gloucester Quays outlet centre offers a range of clothing shops and from there you can access the Gloucester Docks where there are many restaurants and bars and a multi-screen cinema.

Tewkesbury: Offering a selection of specialty shops, antique shops, tea and coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. A small open-air market is held twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The main shopping areas are on High Street, Church Street and Barton Street.

Local walks

If you would like an easy walk turn left out of Cyder Press Farm, turn right just after the barn and before the village pond and follow the track until you come to a gate. Go through the gate and into the field and follow the fence in front of you in a left hand direction until you reach another gate at the other end. Through this gate you will pass over a small waterway and then a small dogleg bend until you reach the old canal. If you go right you will eventually get to The Swan Pub at Coombe Hill and if you go right you will eventually arrive at The Red Lion. You can continue from the Red Lion to The New Dawn Inn at Norton and then from there walk along the main road back to the village. In all it is about 4.5 miles with an uphill climb between the two pubs.

Unless it has been hot and dry for a long time, it is likely to be muddy along the canal path.

On the other side of the Canal heading towards Coombe Hill (Turning right along the canal is a bird hide and nature reserve, so bring your binoculars!)

By Car

The postcode for the property is GL19 4AG, however please note that this postcode is the same for the whole village and will not take you to the front door. Follow instructions below:

No matter what direction you approach Cyder Press Farm from, you will need to join the A38 before turning off into the village of The Leigh. Follow your sat nav to reach the A38. If you are approaching from Gloucester (this is likely to be the way you will come from London) the turning for Blacksmiths Lane is past the village of Norton. Do not turn left at the first turning on the left signposted ‘The Leigh’, only turn left when you see Blacksmiths Lane, opposite a long, red brick barn. If you are approaching from Tewkesbury, Blacksmiths Lane is on your right past the village of Coombe Hill.  Carry on for a further ½ mile down the lane and then carry straight on at a small junction (do not veer off to the left!) after approximately 150 yards the road will bend round to the left. Cyder Press Farm driveway is the first on your left-hand side.

By Train

Cheltenham and Gloucester Train Stations are both around 20 minutes away from Cyder Press Farm. Services run regularly to Gloucester and Cheltenham from London Paddington (duration 2 hrs) and Birmingham (duration 1 hr) approx.
