Whether you are looking for a winter escape, a summer sojourn, or something in-between, we’ve handpicked our favourite Cotswold cottages to suit your seasonal staycation.

Spring

Meadow View, Bolthole Retreats

Cottage: Meadow View, Avon Farm Estate

Location: Saltford

Sleeps: 4+2

Bedrooms: 2

Enjoy the spring lambs and spring chickens on Avon Farm as you relax in your private hot tub – perfect if there’s still a slight chill in the air. Meadow View is set within the owner’s 230-acre arable farm, and if you’re up early enough you can help yourself to some fresh eggs or wander around the stables.

A cleverly converted barn building, Meadow View offers a spacious living area with a free-standing log burner, as well as a king-size bedroom and twin. Exploring the countryside is easy enough as well – you can hire a bike from the cottage owners, enjoy a spot of fishing on the River Avon, or simply amble down to the local pub which is situated on the riverbank, less than a mile away.

A breath of fresh air and fresh scenery, Meadow View is a beautiful countryside retreat.

Summer

The Landers, Bolthole Retreats

Cottage: The Landers

Location: Little Witcombe

Sleeps: 10

Bedrooms: 5

Originally two farmworker’s cottages, they have been combined to form one long and spacious Cotswold home, cleverly updated with an extension to the rear. The biggest draw to The Landers however, is the large swimming pool (9.6m x 3.5m) and pool garden, perfect for long, lazy sunny afternoons. The poolside area has a lawn, large patio, charcoal barbecue, outside seating and a chiminea, so it’s ideal for summertime entertaining. You needn’t be worried about your furry friends and little ones either, as the swimming pool can be secured by either the side gate or kitchen door, to ensure your children and dogs remain safe.

Moving indoors, The Landers provides characterful living rooms and a spacious dining room with an inglenook fireplace. There are also 3 king-size bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms to choose from.

For a secluded luxury escape, look no further than the Landers.

Autumn

New Church Cottage, Bolthole Retreats

Cottage: New Church Cottage

Location: Tetbury

Sleeps: 4

Bedrooms: 2

New Church Cottage is the epitome of cosy. Antique French sophistication follows you throughout the property. Bundle yourself in your autumnal jumpers and relax in the bedrooms, where billowing fabrics drape over the bed, offering a lovely romantic setting. There’s even a ‘hidden’ bedroom and winding staircase, with show-stopping features such as a crystal chandelier.

For those milder days, enjoy the petite courtyard garden, away from the hustle and bustle of town. For those colder evenings, settle down beside the open fire. And for those days you can manage to tear yourself away from this Cotswold cottage, head to Westonbirt arboretum to see the technicolour of the trees in autumn – it’s only a 10-minute drive away.

Cotswold creams, Farrow & Ball grey tones and a hint of honey-colours create a palette that is ideal for those looking for a traditional country cottage holiday.

Winter

Grindstone Mill, Bolthole Retreats

Cottage: Grindstone Mill

Location: Wotton-under-Edge

Sleeps: 12

Bedrooms: 6

Down a little country road is a not-so-little secret. Formerly an 11th century mill, the owners of Grindstone have updated the property to create a resplendent Cotswold home. It is ideal for families looking for that perfect winter escape.

Cuddle up together in the snug, beside the wood burner, or recline in the sitting room beside the large open fire. It’s beginning to look like a very cosy Christmas, and to treat yourselves, why not order a delightful hamper from Caspian Caviar, an online luxury larder at the rear of the property which the cottage owners run.

The luxury extends into the bedrooms, with ornate bedheads, carpets, and views out over the garden fields, mill course and boat house. Outside, feel like you’re in a forgotten time. The Little Avon river runs through the property with a quaint wooden bridge overtop, and a delightful patio and knot garden contains aromatic plants and culinary herbs – truly a feast for the senses.

Grindstone Mill is almost too good to be true. Cheers to a luxurious Christmas!
